I am spending my placement at Newark Primary School in which I have been in from the start of my course and will be until May in which placement ends. There are 16 children in the class I am in which are a primary one class.
I help in my learners by planning activities that are suited to their needs and their skills. Also trying my hardest to make sure they find such subjects like Math and Language fun and enjoyable. I also help with activities in which the class teacher has for the children to do. I as when doing activities like spelling it can be harder for some of the children so they need an extra hand due to something like they ether do not hear the word or they have a hard time writing the letter. Some of the children cannot count as well as others so need a helping hand with Math sheets that have been left for the children to do on their own. At placement I am also out in the playground during break time and at the end of lunchtime, which I enjoy as it means I can get ideas about activities for the children from observing how the children playing in the playground. It also means I get to meet children from other classes and other members of staff. I can get to know the children better way from the class room environment and they can get to know me better instead of seeing me as someone that can give them into trouble or just help then with school work.
My experience at the school is that they do not stand for bullying if a child is seen hurting another there are one of many things can happen they can be put on a time out, the child doing the hurting could be moved away from the person they are hitting and if it keeps happening the child will then be sent to see the head teacher.
The school has one child that has autism in the whole class set of primary one. The child gets someone in to help them every few days and take them away for special activities. The child also has an Early Education worker in their class room for help when ever they ether need time alone or time away from the class room environment.
From my experience in the primary school I hope to gain confidence my own skills through my placement. As my placement is in a primary school I am getting experiences in a school which helps my future career as I am interested in going to university to do a degree in primary school teaching. I am still unsure about my career as psychology interest me as well as being a Nursery Teacher so hope that my experience in placement helps me to find out if being a teacher is something I wish to do as a career or if it is not then placement has helped me narrow down my choices.
It seems that you are really enjoying you placement and it sounds as though it is a positive experience.
